OUR CHURCH HISTORY

A Presbyterian Church was started in Somerset West in 1927. The old building can still be seen on the corner of Andries Pretorius Street and Bright Street. Today it is used as a church hall. Through the years the congregation grew until a bigger building was needed. In 1994, the new structure was consecrated with great joy and excitement.

Although originally a Presbyterian Church, heeding Jesus’ prayer in John 17 for unity amongst Christians, in 2002 the congregation decided to become a United Church under two denominations, mainly the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa and the United Congregational Church of South Africa.
