WHO WE ARE

A Presbyterian Church was started in Somerset West in 1927. The old building can still be seen on the corner of Andries Pretorius Street and Bright Street. Today it is used as a church hall. Through the years the congregation grew until a bigger building was needed. In 1994, the new structure was consecrated with great joy and excitement in 2002.

Today, there are 2 ministers serving this vibrant and mission-minded congregation. A Youth pastor, administrator, a receptionist and caretaker also form part of the staff. George Marchinkowski is the lead minister and Bevan Sylvester is the assistant minister. Mathew Seaward looks after the youth affairs and Neray Serfontein is responsible for admin.

Sunday School runs concurrently with the Sunday services which take place at 8:00 and 10:00. The 8:00 service is traditional and the later one family-oriented led by a music group. There is also a worship service on Thursdays at 10:30 and the first Sunday of every month is a combined 9:00 service.

Somerset West United Church is involved with several community project and outreach programmes overseen by the Social Action Committee.

Family

We see our family life as a”grace-space” where people can feel safe enough to be authentic and free to move beyond what was, to become all that God designed them to be.

A family of Christ-followers who have taken to heart the truth of God’s grace shown us in Jesus.
