I have a glove here in my hand. The love cannot do anything itself, but when my had is in it, it can do many things. True it is not the glove, but my hand in the glove that acts. We are gloves. It is the Holy Spirit in us who is the hand, who does the job. We have to make room for the hand so that every finger is filled.
Gracious Spirit, dwell with me:
I myself would gracious be
And with words that help and heal,
would Thy life in mine reveal;
And with actions bold and meek,
Would for Christ my Saviour speak (Thomas Lynch)

When I was a little girl, my father used to tuck me into bed at night. He talked with me, prayed with me, and laid his big hand on my little face. I did not move because I wanted to keep the feeling of that big hand on my face. It was a comfort to me.
Later, when I was in the concentration camp, I would sometimes pray, “Heavenly Father, will You lay Your hand on my face?” That would bring me peace, and I would be able to sleep. Because my father showed me his fatherly love, I could later understand the heavenly Father’s love. Fathers and mothers, show your children love.

Our Father, if we are parents or grandparents, help us reflect Your love to our children and grandchildren to train them in trusting their earthly protectors so that they can find the way when they need their heavenly Father’s help.

When God tells me to visit a country, I obey His direction. So when I saw that a clerk in a travel agency had changed my route, I telephoned her back immediately. “Why must I go from Sydney to Tel Aviv and then to Cape Town?” “I am sorry, but there is no refueling spot in the Indian Ocean” came the response. “Well I cannot change my plans. I will just have to pray for an island”
In only a few minutes time she telephoned again, saying she had received a telegram from Quanta Airlines announcing that they had arranged a refueling place in the Cocos Islands so that there was now a direct flight from Sydney to Cape Town.
